Zoom, Facetime and Telephone Consultations
Online and telephone counselling is not a new concept and has been proven to be successful for many years for a variety of reasons. Some of the advantages for seeking online or telephone counselling are:
Offers flexibility timewise. You may not be able to commute to a session. Working late from work, travelling or simply being out of area will not cause disruption to your sessions. You can attend counselling from anywhere you find convenient, all you require is your device and internet connection.
Saves time for time poor people. Nowadays we tend to work odd hours and travelling in Sydney traffic can be unpredictable and exhausting.
You may live in a remote area. You can access your counsellor no matter where you live with technology. Others may find it more comfortable to open up in their own environment as they may find it stressful or worrisome trying to manage the external influences of physically getting to an office for counselling.
You do not need any technical experience. All you need is a quiet, safe, and private space that you feel most comfortable in to be heard. I guarantee that my space is also quiet, safe and secure to ensure that your privacy is maintained.
Babysitting for your children might not be possible. This way you can continue with regular counselling without worrying about finding a babysitter.
Your privacy is completely protected. You may suffer with severe anxiety and fear or being seen and judged attending a counselling office. Online counselling offers you complete privacy.
Your online counsellor might be best suited to your needs. You might find a counsellor that has experience, training and skill set that is best suited to addressing your needs that does not live close by.
In person counselling is preferable as the counsellor can easily pick up on nuances that may be missed on screen. However, there are more similarities with counselling sessions than differences. Personally, I have found that clients have benefited from interacting on screen as they are able to continue counselling without interruption and interaction techniques addressed together, work really well.
Telephone and online counselling offer convenience, privacy, and safety with the current Covid 19 pandemic.
Online and Telephone Counselling – What to Expect
Just like person-to-person counselling sessions, in the first few sessions you will be getting to know your counsellor and trying to decide what direction you would like to move in. The counsellor will ask questions to best get a feel for your situation and how you would like to proceed. Counsellors are trained to help you explore your emotions and the responses and behaviours that are keeping you stuck. The aim is to help you to become aware of your choices and new healthy solutions and ways of responding to situations that have kept you stuck.
We can discuss a contract together to reach your goals. However, as sessions progress, you can change or terminate your contract as you wish.
